With a focus on sustainable agricultural and rural development, Professor dr. Jiri outlined five key initiatives aimed at enhancing the nation’s agricultural productivity and improving livelihoods.These are:1. Irrigation Rehabilitation and Development.2. I urge all ministry departments to accelerate and complete all projects and programs under National Development 1 (NDS1) , utilise retention funds/revolving funds and channel these funds towards the Ministry’s agricultural success.

He urged participants to remain focused on the key areas during the ongoing workshop while celebrating past achievements as stepping stone towards future success.
The Department of Livestock Research’s mandate includes generation of technologies to improve livestock production and productivity, packaging and dissemination of the technologies and information, conservation of plant and animal genetic resources for use by researchers and for posterity. Today, President Dr. E.D Mnangagwa, represented by the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr A.J Masuka, launched the National 2024/25 Pfumvudza/Intwasa and Zunde Ramambo Programme for the 2024/25 summer cropping season at Chief Gwebu’s Homestead in Buhera, Manicaland Province, to enhance food security and climate resilience.
The Village Business Unit will benefit 60 households, while the school business units will impact 1,500 pupils. The Presidential Rural Development Scheme aims to uplift rural communities by establishing a total of 35,000 VBUs and 9,600 school business units by 2025.
He asserted that the Distribution of Presidential Inputs will start tomorrow nationwide for the summer cropping season
These initiatives will drive rural industrialization, combat climate change, and enhance food security, contributing to economic growth and independence for rural households.
